heat transfer tips
Here are some settings and special instructions for different types of heat transfers that you might be applying. (Remember to always sample test on waste garments first.)

Garments
1. Place garment on machine and smooth the area where the transfer will be applied to ensure there are no wrinkles or seams in the lower layer.
2. Position the transfer and cover with slip sheet.
3. Close the machine carefully to avoid displacing the transfer or slip sheet.
4. The machine must be opened slowly at the selected time to avoid hot splitting the edges of the image. The first 1/4 inch of platen separation is the critical part.
5. DO NOT REMOVE THE GARMENT FROM THE MACHINE! Cool the transfer in place using a metal heat sink such as the "Chiller" for about 3-5 seconds.
6. Peel the paper immediately after cooling. Be careful when removing the garment from the machine because the image is still warm and will stick to itself.
Caps
1. Position the cap on the machine.
Note: The holddown must be strong enough to establish contact between the cap front and the lower platen
2. Position the transfer.
3. Close the machine carefully to avoid shifting the transfer with the Teflon holddown sheet.
4. Open the machine slowly at the selected time until the separation between the heated platen and the Teflon holddown sheet is approximately 1 inch.
Note: The teflon holddown sheet must keep the transfer in contact with the cap while it is being cooled.
5. Use an air hose or a small electric fan to blow air under the upper platen on the Teflon sheet for 10 seconds.
6. Fully open the machine and peel the paper.
7. Remove cap.
Note: For increased opacity the time may be shortened or the temperature reduced. Keep in mind, however, that adhesion will be adversely affected if either is reduced too far. We always ship extra transfers.
